Expanding Primary Care Treatment in North Cheam and Worcester Park
Following information recently provided by Liberal Democrat MP Paul Burstow, Sutton and Merton NHS have taken specific further action to ensure primary care capacity is enhanced for the residents of the Southern part of the Hamptons and the Worcester Park area. To this end, the existing surgery of Dr K Kanthan at 740 London Road, North Cheam, whose practice boundaries extend into the area covered by the Hamptons development, has been approved to recieve funding of £167,000 from NHS Sutton and Merton to increase the size of the premises from 60m² to 123m². This will enable two additional consulting rooms as well as other, supporting facilities. Planning approval has recently been granted and, subject to final negotiations with the freeholder, work will commence shortly on the improvements. This will provide additional capacity for residents to register with a local GP practice.
The Sutton Borough Lib Dems have previously raised the issue of local residents in the Worcester Park area finding it dificult to register with a GP. Such residents may contact the Primary Care Support Service on 0208 335 1400, explaining that they wish to register with a GP and they will be allocated to a convenient practice. Should they have further difficulties with registration, they may contact Malcolm Grazier at the PCT on 0208 251 0491.
